Moustique

Working in partnership with In Tune for Life and Christian Aid in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we developed this animation to be distributed throughout Africa to raise awareness of health issues surrounding Malaria.   The concept which evolved throughout pre production was to keep the story personal, and make general messages on malaria prevention clear, engaging and entertaining, with a very human angle.

Inspired by cartoons of the 1950s and 1960s, we developed this bold and colourful style to achieve just these aims.  Entirely built in Flash, the animation characterises both a hungry mosquito, and the family he’s attempting to attack.

Throughout his comical attempts, we focus on the story of a husband who, only after the death of one of his children, learns the many ways such deaths can be prevented. The story ends with an upbeat message that carrying out a few simple things can protect his family in the future.
